Johnny Lever does Golmaal
We hear funnyman Jonny Lever is up to some golmaal! Well no need to sweat as the news
is that All the Best director Rohit Shetty has signed on Johnny Lever for his upcoming film Golmaal 3, of the Golmaal franchise.
"I have signed director Rohit Shetty's film Golmaal 3. It is going to be a laugh riot and completely family oriented film. I'm looking forward to work in it," says the excited comedian.
Well at least having Johnny Lever on board means Rohit can be assured that this Golmaal sequel is going to be a madcap laugh riot as he has a pro on hand. However, as the casting process is still going on we can expect Rohit to add on few more names to his Golmaal franchise.
Though Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade and Kareena Kapoor have been confirmed for this project.

The name is Malvade, Vidya Malvade!
If you think what's in a name think again, as poor Vidya Malvade has been traumatized by the confusion of her name with the more popular Bollywood actress Vidya Balan.
It so happened that the name game got too much for Vidya to handle when at the shoot of her recent film- Striker, Vidya was put down by none other than a flower delivery guy who thought that the bouquet of flowers meant for Vidya Malvade was actually for Vidya Balan!
Obviously Vidya who was used to receive a bouquet of flowers from her husband daily was outraged when the delivery guy refused to hand over the bouquet he thought was meant for Vidya Balan. The pretty lady had to frown a little bit to tell the delivery boy about the rightful owner of the bouquet, but ever since then it became a standard joke in the Striker crew.
And thereafter, the flower delivery guys were directed to Vidya's room with the instruction to refer to her as Balan at least once!

When Mithun slashed his chest for Amitabh Bachchan
On his recent visit on the sets of the dance reality show Lux 'Dance India
Dance' Amitabh Bachchan bonded with the disco star Mithun Chakraborty after a hiatus of almost 20 long years.
Big B who was on the set to promote his forthcoming 'Teen Patti' shared some sweet memories with the dancing star.
The duo had several beautiful memories to choose from and got very nostalgic as they shared anecdotes with the audience from the good old times- be it their bonding on the sets of the blockbuster Agneepath or the time when Mithun Da had slashed his chest and offered his blood to Goddess kali praying for Bachchan's speedy recovery post his much-talked-about Coolie accident.
Big B and Mithun Da left the audience and contestants of the show enthralled with the memories of their friendship.
Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan bond over controversies
Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan may be enemies in real life but it seems that they are bonded by controversy created by various sections of society.
Apparently it seem that all is not well with Salman Khan's ambitious film 'Veer' in the pink city of Jaipur as a certain Rajput Sena Karni is opposing its screening. They have claimed that the film has some scenes that convey misconception about Rajasthan and its people and therefore it has hurt their sentiments. Protesters from Rajput Sena Karni have also stopped the screening of film midway in a theater in Jaipur and have damaged the theatre properties to show agitation.
While, Salman is harassed by Rajput Sena Karnis, the other Khan, Shahrukh is in no less trouble as his statement over including Pakistani players in IPL teams has brewed trouble with the moral police of Shiv Sena.
Shiv Sena's news publication 'Daily Saamana' claims that Shahrukh has no grief over the lives lost in the 26/11 blasts, which were carried out by terrorist from across the border (Pakistan). Therefore Shiv Sainiks in retaliation to SRK's statement set fire to the poster of his upcoming film 'My Name is Khan' and further threatened theatre owners with the dire consequence of setting the theater ablaze if they screen the film.
Salman's movie was already in a pit and this controversy has put a lid on it, while SRK's film is yet to release and it is only a matter of time to see if this controversy becomes a setback for the film or gives publicity.

Vidya Balan packs up kilos for Ishqiya
In B-Town where every heroine is striving hard to get the coveted size zero figure, Vidya Balan is one such actress who has no such aspirations. We hear Vidya, who is known for her versatile acting had absolutely no apprehensions to pile on kilos of weight for her role of a village belle in Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Ishqiya'.
The 'Parineeta' girl who plays the character of Krishna a village belle in the film set against the rustic backdrop says it was necessary to make her character authentic. She explains, "Krishna is a typical Indian woman with wholesome and voluptuous figure. She requires those curves to look good in sari."
She adds, "Abhishek (Chaubey) also told me not to lose weight because it suited my character." For 'Paa', Vidya shed a few kilos as she was playing a doctor and mother of a kid suffering from fatal illness. The actress who got a lot of flak for her weight gain has been working really hard to drop those extra kilos and is now looking fabulous.
Movie Review : Road To Sangam (2010)
Road To Sangam: Carries a strong message Rating: 3.5 out of 5*
Starring: Paresh Rawal, Om Puri, Swati Chitnis, Pawan Malhotra, Vijay Mishra and Javed Sheikh
Director: Amit Mishra
The films starts with Tushar Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi receiving a box of Mahatma Gandhi's ashes which have been lying at a local post office for years. He decides to immerse the ashes in the holy river 'Sangam' on the banks of Ganga. Then there is Hashmatullah (Paresh Rawal) a simple, god fearing, devout Muslim who is a renowned mechanic who can repair any engine. He is also respected by the local religious associations there and is a contender for the top post. His main rival is a rich man Mohammad Ali Kasuri (Om Puri) who at one time was his friend but due to some differences has become his rival. Also against Hashmat is the local maulvi Maulana Qureshi (Pawan Malhotra). Among Hashmat's friends are Dr. Banerjee (Javed Sheilh) who though is from a different religion but always is by Hashmat's side, like a brother. One day Hashmat has been entrusted the job of repairing an old V8 ford engine, not knowing the historic significance that it once carried the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi which were immersed in the holy river 'Sangam'. He is caught in a complex situation after a powerful bomb explosion rocks his town leading to the arrest of innocent Muslim youths of his locality. A strike to work is called by the prominent leaders, Mohammad Ali Kasuri and Maulana Qureshi, to protest against the unjust treatment meted out to those arrested youths by the police. He supports them but as he comes to know that the engine he is repairing is needed for a procession to immerse Gandhiji's ashes in a few days, he decides not to join the strike but continue the work on the engine. In return he faces a wrath of fury from his community members. Finally with his nice attitude he is able to convince some of his community people to let him work and they support him. He also convinces the government to change the route of the procession through his area, which is a stronghold of Muslims. Finally the engine is repaired and the procession takes place and muslims greet the procession with open hands and full respect.
Some may find the film as a glorification of Gandhism, but actually its more about 'not having' them rather then 'getting' them. And that's the major USP of this films which doesn,t preaches the principles but simply asks whether do you really aware of such thoughts and ideas.
Debutante director Amit rai does a commendable job in making a thought provoking film and equally commendable is the way he has managed to strike brilliant performances from the actors who are anyway brilliant on their own but this film adds more shine to their acting glory where Paresh Rawal is astonishing, Pawan Malhotra as the maulvi is outstanding and Om Puri is brilliant as ever. Swati Chitnis as Paresh's wife and Yusuf Hussain as Gaffer also provide valuable support.
Filmmaker Amit Rai has succeeded in awakening our dead souls and remind the significance of the great Mahatama Gandhi and his ideologies which are becoming more and more relevant in this age of smart phones and sleek wheels. Watch it for this soul reason.

Gul Panag is not Crooked!
Gul Panag has left the film, 'Crooked', after shooting with Abhishek Bachchan for five days. Apparently
there are some issues between her and the team of 'Crooked'.
According to Gul's manager, Gul left the film because of a change in script. He states that she hadn't started to shoot but had signed the film and done the look test. She was present on the sets but didn't shoot.

Karan Johar spends moolah on American accent class!
Not only has Shahrukh Khan worked hard for 'My Name is Khan'. His onscreen son in the film, Arjan Aujla has had to undergo training to speak with an American accent. And producer Karan Johar had to pay over Rs. 2 lakh before Arjan got his accent right. Now, isn't that going a little overboard?
According to Karan, Arjan plays Kajol and SRK's son in the film and he has been born and brought up in the US. In order to give the role an authentic feel, he had to be able to speak like the other kids there.
Which is why, when the film was being shot in San Francisco, a local teacher was hired there to teach Arjan. There was no fixed routine to the classes; they were conducted whenever Arjan wasn't required to shoot.
The classes were about three-four hours long and the teacher was paid USD 200 per hour. Arjan had 8 classes in total.

Khan owns an IPL (Indian Premier League) franchise team, the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Sharing Bal Thackeray's views in appreciation of Bachchan, Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut said: "Amitabh Bachchan had declined to accept the award of Brisbane University because it was nation's sentiment in the wake of unending violence against Indian students in Australia. People should learn something."

Aamir, Shah Rukh '2 Idiots': Shiv Sena
Mumbai, Jan 30: After targeting Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan for his remarks supporting the inclusion of Pakistani cricketers in the IPL, the Shiv Sena Saturday dragged in Aamir Khan, calling the duo "2 Idiots".
"In real life, Aamir and Shah Rukh have been proved as '2 Idiots' as both are making stupid statements supporting the cause of Pakistani cricketers," said a statement in the party's Hindi mouthpiece Dopahar Ka Saamna.
"On the one hand, while SRK is openly displaying his love for Pakistani players, Aamir has even put nationalistic sentiments in his utterances on this issue," said the statement in the tabloid, which hit the stands this afternoon.
"According to Aamir, if any cricketer is good, he would like to have him in his team, it makes no difference to him which country he belongs to," said the statement.
The statement is accompanied by a digitally altered picture of the recent record blockbuster "3 Idiots". It shows the head of Aamir (the star and promoter of the movie) popping out of a drum and SRK sticking his tongue from another drum - signifying the accompanying heading of "2 Idiots".
Aamir had said Friday that if he were to select IPL players he would do so only on the basis of their performance and not nationality.
The Shiv Sena Friday hit out at Shah Rukh, who is also the Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner, after he said he would have picked a Pakistani player for IPL matches if his team had a slot.
Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut said if the actor was so keen on them, "he could go play his matches in Lahore, not in India".
Thane Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde announced that no film of Shah Rukh would be screened in the district.
Both actors have not reacted to the Shiv Sena's tirade.

No more controversies please, says Vivek Oberoi
By Radhika Bhirani, Gurgaon, Jan 30 : Vivek Oberoi is clearly not happy about being tagged as a 'stalker' or a 'gatecrasher' and says he is 'genuinely sick' of all controversies.
"Suddenly I'm a stalker one day and one day I'm a gatecrasher. Mela laga hua hai kya (Is it a fair of controversies)? Will anybody say anything and walk away? What nonsense is this? It's very irresponsible and I completely disapprove of it. It's rubbish. If there was an element of truth in this, I can understand. But this is nonsense," Vivek told IANS.
The actor, who was here to give a sneak preview of a Bollywood musical to be performed at a yet-to-be opened entertainment destination Kingdom of Dreams, seemed visibly upset about recent news reports about him. He has been accused of going uninvited for a party at superstar Shah Rukh Khan's residence where his former beau Aishwarya Rai was present with husband Abhishek Bachchan.
"Shah Rukh and Gauri have been exceptionally kind to me, they are lovely people. It's not like I haven't been to their place before. I have been to their place for their events, their parties - and suddenly I become a gatecrasher? From where? Does anybody do that? I won't go to my relatives house without an invite," Vivek said.
The 33-year-old also came in the spotlight recently when he was seated next to the former Miss World at a function in Mumbai, while at another event, he was blamed for being strategically seated behind power couple Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan.
And when Vivek made an unexpected late entry at the premiere of "Rann" in New Delhi Thursday, where Aishwarya and Abhishek were present, his presence was speculated upon yet again.
"Yesterday I came out of the premiere of and #65533;Rann' and I was asked a silly question - and #65533;Why weren't you sitting in the same auditorium?'. How do I answer that? Do I have to go search for them in each auditorium and then sit accordingly? It's ridiculous. And if I was inside the same auditorium as theirs, then people would say and #65533;You're stalking them'," said Vivek.
He stressed that every person involved in these speculations has moved on and is happy in his or her life, and so the media should just let them be.
"They are all happy with their own lives. I am doing great work by god's grace, my personal life is very happy, I have got a great life and wonderful friends. They (Abhishek and Aishwarya) are married, they are really happy, doing really well and they are wonderful, civil to me as I am to them and there is no problem. It is irritating that people just keep bringing it up."
The actor first brush with controversy came when he called a press conference against actor Salman Khan in 2003. He has been courting controversies ever since, but says he is tired of making clarifications now.
"I'm tired of clarifications. Why should I keep giving clarifications? There are new stories about me everyday, so should I leave everything and make clarifications? I'm a human being, I'm an actor, I work, I have a family, I have got a nice life - let me live it. Otherwise I should be on the hotline with the media constantly. I am genuinely sick of it. People should stop it now," he said.
On the film front, Vivek will soon be seen in Ramesh Taurani's "Prince" followed by Ram Gopal Varma's two-part series "Rakta Charitra".
Warsaw excitedly awaits 'My Name Is Khan' world premiere
By Surender Bhutani, Warsaw, Jan 30 : Shah Rukh Khan posters are up and advance booking for tickets has begun. This Polish capital, home to a large number of 'King Khan' fans, is all set for the world premiere of 'My Name is Khan' Feb 12. To cash in on Shah Rukh's immense popularity in Poland, the distributors 20th Century Fox has selected Warsaw for the world premiere of his latest film, which sees him paired opposite Kajol after eight long years.
Directed by Karan Johar, the film is about Rizwan Khan (Shah Rukh), an autist, who is mistaken for a terrorist while travelling in the US.
The Indian community and Polish Bollywood buffs are thrilled as this will be the first time a Hindi movie will be shown in Poland along with other western capitals and important cities around the globe simultaneously.
"We cannot believe it but still it is going to be a historic day when we can see Shah Rukh's movie on the very first day of its release. Till this day we normally get (to see) Bollywood films which are normally a year old or so with Polish subtitles," said J.J. Singh, president of the Indo-Polish Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
Big posters have been pasted at important corners of the city and a brisk advance booking of the forthcoming film has already started.
"Finally Poland is on the radar for Bollywood movies and luckily both the producer and distributor understand the value of the Polish market. In five years time, when 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' took Poland by surprise in December 2004, we have covered much ground to be acknowledged as serious lovers of Bollywood movies," said Janusz Krzyzowski, president of the India-Poland Cultural Committee.
"This is great news for us Indians. Let us hope many more Bollywood producers will take a cue from Karan Johar's initiative to release their latest film in Poland. The profile of India has changed dramatically since 2004 and now sky is the limit for cooperation between India and Poland," Rajesh Vaishnaw, Indian charge d'affaires, told IANS.
It was the release of "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham" with Polish sub-titles that made Shah Rukh a household name in Poland. Later, with films like "Main Hoon Na", "Kal Ho Na Ho" and "Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna" among others he almost became synonymous with Bollywood in Poland.
The songs of his movies became instant hits and young girls and boys started pasting his posters in their rooms. Last year a biography of Shah Rukh penned by Anupama Chopra was translated into Polish.

Mumbai, Jan 30 : The debutant actors of Bollywood flick 'Teen Patti' feel that working with superstar Amitabh Bachchan has been a dream come true for them.

"Everything took a backseat. He made everything very comfortable. He took the step to break the ice with all four of us. So I guess that''s what really helped us to calm our nerves working with him," added Kher.
Meanwhile, Shraddha Kapoor, the daughter of Bollywood actor Shakti Kapoor seemed quite thrilled of her debut with the bigwigs of the industry.
Kapoor said, "It was just outstanding. The four of us are so lucky that we got that opportunity. It was a complete dream turning into reality."

The film also stars Raima Sen, R. Madhavan and Saira Mohan.
''Teen Patti'' is an emotionally riveting and razor sharp thriller about greed, deception and giant feats of imagination.

Love it, hate it but you can't ignore 'Ishqiya'
By Subhash K. Jha, Film: 'Ishqiya'; Director: Abhishek Choubey; Cast: Naseeruddin Shah, Arshad Warsi, Vidya Balan; Rating: **
"Ishqiya" is a very strange film. Strange, not so much in terms of content, unless you really believe there are sleepy dusty towns in north India where boys learn to use a gun before they learn to wash their own bottoms. But in terms of the way the three main characters are thrown against each other in combustions that suggest a brutal bonding between the libido and the landscape.
To cinematographer Mohana Krishna's credit, he creates in the suburbs of Mumbai(masquerading as Gorakhpur) a kind of sweeping lazy ambience of leisurely self-indulgence.
"Ishqiya" is the kind of cinema that you can love or hate, but cannot be indifferent to. The dusty, parched, sexually and spiritually arid hinterland renders itself effectively to the characters. The uncle-nephew pair of Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi provide the kind of sweaty, grimy male bonding that we saw in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds".
The two protagonists in "Ishqiya" represent the acme of reprehensibility. Come to think of it, there isn't one character in the plot whom you can begin to like let alone admire. Like the Naseer-Arsha-Vidya triangle the other characters are either hazy or horny, or both. There's a businessman who sells steel on the surface and supplies illegal arms underneath. He's supposed to represent the clan of the corrupt.
Vidya Balan's Krishna is a conniving victim. And if that sounds like a contradiction in terms, it is purposefully projected into a plot that pulsates with a seedy tension and a freewheeling virile humour.
"Ishqiya" is the aesthetic version of toilet graffiti. The writing on the wall is very clear - hate these characters who live by the gun.
How the film finds a central core of gentleness in this milieu of murky machinations is another story. Or maybe it isn't.
Debutant director Abhishek Choubey tries to create two different worlds, one of criminality and the other of compassion, within one range of vision. It's a tall order.
Some of the sex and power play among Vidya, Arshad and Naseer's characters are intriguing and arresting in its swift shifts of dramatic tension from one to the other.
Towards the second overture of this untried symphony of antipathy, the writer and director conspire to create a bizarre climactic spiral involving a shady business tycoon of the area whom our trio of protagonists decide to kidnap.
By the time the kidnapping plan goes horribly awry, the narrative too loses its bearings.
If the film holds you until the end it's because of the principal performances. Naseeruddin Shah confers a rock-solid tenderness to his ageing criminal-lover's role.
Arshad Warsi, one of the most underrated actors of our cinema, gets a rare opportunity to sink his skills into a part of a raunchy, randy rogue, out to get the neighbourhood widow to hit the sack.
But the film belongs to Vidya Balan. With a face and eyes that convey a determination to make her way through a rough patriarchal order, Vidya is tender, brittle, cunning and cool - all rolled into a bundle of bewildering emotions that unfold more through her body language than the script. She rises above the self-indulgent realism of the narrative.
A triumph for the actress. But what of the film? How do we evaluate "Ishqiya" beyond its politically-charged, verbally-lurid lunge at realism? Is the film to be applauded for forging a new language of expression? Or should that language have been used with more restrain and tact?
Frankly there are no clear and simple value judgements to be applied to "Ishqiya". It's partly a homage to the rugged Westerns from Hollywood, and partly an attempt to penetrate the north Indian small-town hinterland where people don't just live with violence, they even enjoy it.
But did this film have to follow them?

I can also do non-comic roles: Riteish Deshmukh
By Joginder Tuteja, Mumbai, Jan 30 : Riteish Deshmukh, applauded for his performance in the just released film 'Rann', says the rumour that he sulked on the sets was 'gossip at its funniest' and says he should also be cast for non-comic roles. "The problem is that half the information is always bad information. Me sulking on the sets of my own film? Can it sound stranger than that? In fact, it all sounded so amusing to me that there was nothing for me to react to. It was gossip at its funniest," Riteish told IANS.
Released Friday, Ram Gopal Varma's directorial venture has received positive reviews. Usually seen in funny roles, this time Riteish plays a serious journalist - one of the three principal characters other than Amitabh Bachchan and Paresh Rawal.
This is not the first time he has donned such a role. A few years ago in Varma's "Naach" he was was roped in for a guest appearance.
The same was the case with a segment in "Darna Zaroori Hai" where he was seen as a student along with Amitabh Bachchan.
One wonders whether Riteish makes such exceptions primarily for Varma?
"On the contrary I would say that rather than me making such exceptions, it is only Ramu who comes to me with such roles. At least there is one director out there who thinks of me differently from the rest," he said.
In fact, when he was offered "Rann", he did ask Varma for the reason behind his casting.
"I had an interesting conversation with Ramu where I asked him point blank when no one casts me in anything other than a comic role, how come he thinks of me differently.
"To which he replied that right from the day he met me, he looked at the serious side of my personality as well. He considered me to be a serious guy in real life and hence wanted to cast me in a different zone."
Buoyed by the confidence showed in him by Varma, Riteish is hopeful that he would be looked upon as a far more versatile actor.
"I am open to all kinds of roles. Eventually I hope when people conceive non-comic characters, they think of me as well," he said.

Sena attacks SRK, government assures protection
Mumbai, Jan 29: The Maharashtra government Friday promised to protect Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan after he came under attack from the Shiv Sena for advocating the cause of Pakistani cricketers in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Minister of State for Home Ramesh Bagwe told reporters that the government was ready to provide Shah Rukh security if he desired it.
The minister also vowed to give "full security" to all the players in the IPL matches.
The Shiv Sena hit out at the actor, who is also the Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner, after he said that he would have picked a Pakistani player for IPL matches if his team had a slot.
The IPL teams' failure to select even a single Pakistani cricketer has raised a storm in Pakistan.
Attacking Shah Rukh for espousing the cause of Pakistani players, Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut said if the actor was so keen on them, "he could go play his matches in Lahore, not in India".
"Pakistan has been blatantly indulging in terror activities and killing our innocent people. Sena is firm in not allowing Pakistani players on our soil," Raut told reporters.
Taking the issue further, Thane Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde announced that no film of Shah Rukh would be screened in the district.
"Since Shah Rukh Khan has hurt the sentiments of the people by his utterances, we have decided that his films will not be exhibited in any cinema or multiplex in the entire Thane district," said Shinde.
Shah Rukh's latest movie, "My Name Is Khan", is due for global release Feb 12.
Shah Rukh had said in Ahmedabad Wednesday that there was a need to create an environment where IPL franchisees could recruit Pakistani players with ease.
He said that his team had exhausted its quota of foreign players by picking up Shane Bond. Otherwise, he would have loved to have Pakistanis in the Kolkata Knight Riders.
In a related development, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray lashed out at industrialist Mukesh Ambani for his views in London that Mumbai belonged to the whole country.
Saying that the industrialist was "not in his senses" when he made the statement, Thackeray said that "Mumbai belonged to Marathis" as much as Reliance Industries belonged Mukesh Ambani.

Amitabh Bachchan to inaugurate Shahrukh Khan's Home Theatre
By Subhash K Jha: The growing proximity between the Bachchans' and Shahrukh Khan just got thicker. On Thursday Shahrukh Khan called up the Bachchans' and requested for a print of 'Rann' to kick-start his newly-constructed home theatre at his residence.
Says a source, "Shahrukh specifically wanted to inaugurate his home theatre with a Bachchan starrer, luckily 'Rann' was on release this week. So he asked Karan Johar to quickly dial Mr. Bachchan who put him in to the producers of 'Rann'. The producers gladly arranged for a print of 'Rann' to be delivered to SRK's place on Thursday evening."
After watching the film till very late on Thursday night Shahrukh Khan sent an appreciative sms to the film's producer which read, "Very kind of you to send the film across. Very intense, very topical...good performances all round. The viewpoint is very current."
Apparently Shahrukh wanted to invite Mr. Bachchan to view 'Rann' in his home theatre. Alas! Mr. Bachchan was in Delhi on Thursday night attending the premiere of 'Rann'. You would think with his sworn lack of empathy with politics the Big B would run as far away from politician as possible. Surprisingly politicians rather than stars dominated the Delhi premiere of 'Rann' on Thursday night.
Those VIP (very important politicians) who attended the premiere on Thursday night included Yashwant Sinha, L K Advani, Sheila Dixit, Sachin Pilot and the current Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi Tejendra Khanna.
Plus, of-course Amar Singh, who is now more a film person than politician. This was Mr. Bachchan's first politician-dominated premiere in years.
The entire Bachchan parivar was in full attendance, though Jaya arrived separately from the rest of the family. An ever-enthusiastic Vivek Oberoi also saw the film though away from the Bachchans.
A perception that 'Rann' indulges in serious bashing of the electronic media had the film's leading man Amitabh Bachchan stationed in the Capital for most of Thursday inviting the city's most influential journalists for the premiere at the PVR Select City.
Most of the who's who of Delhi's press corps melted under the great Bachchan charm. The man himself was baffled by the widespread belief that the film was against the electronic media.
Said Mr. Bachchan on Thursday afternoon, "I'm in Delhi meeting various members of the press trying to understand why 'Rann' is being perceived as being against them or why I'm being seen to have issues with the press. Not at all! I've always respected the press."
Tell him the perception of Mr. Bachchan being anti-press goes back to those years in the 1980s when he had banned the press.
Says Mr. Bachchan, "I banned them because they had banned me, but now that's a thing of past. Writing my blog has made me understand the duties and exigencies of the media much better than before."

Rann: Is a must watch
Abhijit Mhamunkar, Rating: 4 out of 5*
Starring: Amitabh Bachchan, Ritesh Deshmukh, Sudeep, Gul Panag, Neetu Chandra, Rajat Kapoor, Mohnish Behl, Suchitra Krishnamurthy and Paresh Rawal
Director: Ram Gopal Varma
An ethical news channel head, Vijay Harshvardhan Malik (Amitabh Bachchan) is facing TRP issues. Not willing to compromise with his principals while running his channel India 24X7, he is forever beaten by a rival channel Headlines 24 run by his one time protege Amrish Kakkar (Mohnish Behl). Cub reporter Purab Shastri (Ritesh) idolizes Malik and is the new recruit in India 24X7. Malik's son Jai (Sudeep) is a complete opposite of his father and wants to run the news channel like a business. Jai is frustrated and neck deep in debt with Headlines 24 consistently robbing their new show ideas. Malik's son in law business magnet Navin Shankhaliya lures Jai into a dangerous plot hatched by wily politician Mohan Pandey (Rawal). Malik trusting his son, unknowingly becomes a part of this treacherous game. Pandey succeeds in toppling the government and India 24X7 becomes the no.1 channel. But what happens after Purab suspects a conspiracy in all this forms the rest of the film.
Ram Gopal Varma is back in super form! Picking a topical subject, one that we all can identify with and lending his superior technical touch, outstanding performances by each cast member, Ramu has a winner on hand. Instead of going on a media bashing spree in his film, Ramu has intricately exposed the media-politician-business magnets nexus and how using a neutral and honest platform like a news channels, our countrymen are being fooled. Rohit Banwalikar's tight screenplay and a constant under current of tension maintained throughout the film makes Rann a gripping watch. The first half appears deliberately slow paced taking its time to establish the characters and the setting but then picks up super speed post interval as the web of deceit gets thicker. Ramu's master touch is evident in sequences such as the lunch table scene, Ritesh's interview of Paresh Rawal, a drunken Rajpal Yadav venting his frustration out with Gul Panag or the climax.
Just when you think Paa was his best till date, Amitabh Bachchan comes back with yet another ace act. His expose speech in the climax is a perfect example of how the angry old man is simply getting better with his every film. Ritesh Deshmukh perhaps in his first ever serious act is excellent. His silences speak volumes. Kannada star, Sudeep exhibiting superb panache holds his own despite being pitched along acting powerhouses like Paresh Rawal and Bachchan. Paresh Rawal after a long time in a serious act is menacingly good as the slimy politician. Gul Panag playing Ritesh's gf is fine but has nothing much to do, ditto for Neetu Chandra who plays Sudeep's fiancee. Rajat Kapoor fits the part perfectly. Rajpal Yadav's character through his humour puts for the glaring truth. Mohnish Behl after a long time gets a meaty role and he utilizes this opportunity well. Suchitra Krishnamurthy is good too.

I've a strange attachment to socks: Shah Rukh
New Delhi, Jan 29 : Thanks to his irrepressible sense of humour, Shah Rukh Khan comes across as an easy going person. But in real life the Bollywood star is little different and one of the things he is extremely finicky about is his socks.
"I have a strange attachment to socks. They should feel right. I could be missing a flight, but if my socks are wrong, I have to take them off... I won't wear nylon socks with sneakers. The only time I get disturbed during shooting is over my socks. I hate brown socks and different-coloured socks," said Shah Rukh said in an interview to the GQ magazine.
The interview will be published in the February issue of the lifestyle magazine.
In the interview, the 44-year-old also talked about his loneliness.
"I can come across as a user, manipulator, disinterested, weird, reclusive, strange, arrogant from the outside. But the people involved know the truth...there are days I feel lonely on the inside. I guess that's the way I am."
"I've never gotten into relationships because I'm scared to. I have a shield. I've lost my parents, so now I don't like to lose relationships. I have to admit that at 44 I am socially and emotionally inept," said Shah Rukh.
The actor will be seen in his forthcoming film "My Name is Khan", which is releasing Feb 12.
Directed by Karan Johar, the film features Shah Rukh as an unconventional hero Rizvan Khan, who embarks on a journey across America to win back the love of his life, played by Kajol. It shows how, along the way, his personality touches the lives of many and inspires a nation.

Ranbir Kapoor plays ball with NBA team
Like many youngsters today, RK is also a big Basketball fan. And when there was a match happening in Madison square garden this Kapoor lad did not wish to miss it.
Bollywood's heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor who was in New York City shooting for his film 'Anjaana Anjaani' along with Piggy Chops was fortunate enough to watch a game of New York Knicks against Los Angeles Lakers, as Ranbir himself puts it, "I heard of stories about Madison Square Garden, but actually being in this place...it was just amazing. I'm still shaking with excitement."
Like an awestruck fan Ranbir went ahead and took a snap with Basketball star Kobe Bryant who was happy to pose for a picture with him. Kobe also gave Ranbir an autographed pair of his favorite sneaker. Not just that, Ranbir also met 2009 Sprite Slam Dunk contest winner Nate Robinson who gifted him his autographed jersey.
Ranbir is surely one lucky guy who got opportunity to watch the game .He must be on cloud nine after meeting and greeting star basketball players. After all boys will be boys!
Shahrukh Khan shows the strength to go on...
Century Ply is enamored with the charisma of Shahrukh Khan and have partnered with a SRK movie earlier. Therefore taking the same trend ahead, they have partnered with SRK's biggest film of 2010 'My Name Is Khan'.
'My Name Is Khan', is a movie wherein the protagonist goes through various ordeals in life to achieve the unattainable. Rizvan Khan, a Muslim man from India, moves to San Francisco and lives with his brother and sister-in-law. Rizvan, who has Asperger syndrome, falls in love with Mandira. After September 11, 2001, Mandira is devastated and they split. To win her back, he embarks on a touching and inspiring journey
across America. Rizwan Khan's strength to go on through every upheaval is integrated with the brand philosophy of Century Ply.
Shahrukh Khan says, "Century Ply has always come up with a theme or slogan that goes with the theme of movie and doesn't look out of place. My earlier film 'Billu' was also associated with this brand. I have liked their present slogan 'Strength to go on' and it goes very much with the story of Rizwan of 'My Name is Khan'. It actually could have been slogan of my film!"
Addressing the media, Mr. Sanjay Agarwal, Jt. MD, Century Ply, added, "The spirit of Rizwan Khan in this movie has strengthened our faith, that if you are true towards your goal, nothing can stop you from achieving it. Everything else becomes meaningless as long as the fortitude is there to reach the destination. The same attitude has brought us to the pinnacle and has kept us there".
Commenting on this association Mr. Abhra Banerjee, VP Marketing of Century Ply said, "The undying spirit of Mr. Khan in this movie is what appeals the most and has a strong resemblance with our brand Century Ply. The brand Century Ply demonstrates the statement, 'Never Say Die', in its mannerism and this is the spirit that the team lives by. This is the second time that we are associating with SRK and hope to keep this association in future as well."

Movie Review : Ishqiya (2010)
Ishqiya: Wickedly funny
Rating: 3.5 out of 5*, Starring: Naseeruddin Shah, Vidya Balan, Arshad Warsi and Salman Shahid
Director: Abhishek Chaubey
Two crooks on the run, Khaalujaan (Naseer) and Babban (Arshad) arrive at beautiful widow Krishna's (Vidya Balan) doorstep. They tell her they were late hubby's good friends at one point of time. The duo has actually run away from their Jiju Mushtaq (Salman Shahid) after duping him of a huge sum of money and is hiding at Krishna's house to save their lives from him. But Mushtaq arrives at Krishna's house and warns them to give back his money in 15 days or face death. The duo then on Krishna's insistence plans to kidnap a mill owner for the same. Meanwhile, Krishna begins her flirting game with the two. While Khaalujaan loses his heart to her, Babban ends up getting physically involved with her. But then Krishna has her own agenda which the two are completely unaware of which may leave them in a shock!
Debutante director Abhishek Chaubey has been a Vishal Bharadwaj assistant for almost all his films and has co-written them as well. This explains the reason why throughout the film you keep getting the film that you watching a Vishal Bharadwaj film. Abhishek has handled the film like a pro and it doesn't appear his first effort at all. However, he takes a bit of a time before the interval to set things up but post it the grip is tight and narrative just perfect. With the film set in eastern UP, the dialogues are as real as they can get. However, the use of expletives and double meaning dialogues could have been lessened. The smooching scene between Vidya and Arshad is quiet long too.
Naseeruddin Shah is just excellent playing Khaalujaan and you can't think of anyone else in his place for the role. Arshad playing completely to the gallery is in top form after a long time. Vidya is in a completely opposite role to her recently released Paa pleasantly shocks with her range and uninhibited act. Pakistani actor Salman Shahid last seen in Kabul Express is impressive. The village kid playing Arshad's buddy is too good.
Vishal Bharadwaj's music of the film is already topping the charts with the pick of the lot being Dil To Bachcha Hai Jee and Ibn-e-Batuta. Vidya's hilarious in the Ibn-e-Batuta number.
Watch Ishqiya for its crazy zany characters and excellent direction.

Shahrukh Khan surprised by his bride
At a five-star hotel in Ahmadabad where Shahrukh Khan was present for a promotion event for 'My Name Is Khan', he was in for a shock.
A 20 year old fan of his came there, dressed as a bride, who wanted to marry
him.
She admitted that she had loved him since she was seven but couldn't marry him as he was already married. SRK cleared the awkwardness in the air with his smile and went down on his knees to slip on the wedding ring on her finger that she had brought along. He sweetly said that this was their wedding's rehearsal.
The girl is overjoyed and expresses that she will never take the ring off. She talked about how kind SRK was to even ask about her family.
Looks like the world has all kinds of fans, right?

I learnt a lot from Road to Sangam -Paresh Rawal
Paresh Rawal is an actor par excellence. From character roles to negative to comedy to serious, he has done everything with aplomb.
This veteran of acting is all praise for his forthcoming film 'Road To Sangam', releasing on 29th January 2010.
Paresh comments, "My character of Hashmat Ullah is a very subdued but strong man. His demeanor is of a quite easy going man but in time of crisis, his personality is strong as iron. In fact like Sardar Patel, this film will be another milestone for me. Although Amit Ria is a new director, but his vision is extremely clear. He knows what he wants and would at times argue with me for certain scenes. Even if I disagreed, he made sure that I also shot the scene from his point of view."
When asked that which are the films that will go in his personal library, he replied with a 'Road to Sangam' and 'Sardar Patel', because these are the films that posed a challenge to him as an actor.
'Road to Sangam' is a film woven around the crucial fact of the last journey of Gandhi ji. One of the urns with Gandhi ji's ashes is discovered locked and forgotten in the locker of a bank. It is retrieved and taken to Allahabad for immersion. A simple god fearing, devout Muslim mechanic named Hashmat Ullah (Paresh Rawal) is entrusted the job of repairing the old V8 ford engine of the truck, to carry the ashes. He is not aware of the historic significance, that earlier too, it had carried the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi in 1948.
Talking more about the learning experience of 'Road to Sangam' Paresh said, "We haven't learned the complete history and while doing this film I got to learn so much about a particular community and their belief. 'Road to Sangam' deals with issues which have always been close to my heart, and that's one of the reasons why I accepted to do this film."
